Clinical Trials for healthy young volunteers
The FIRST Clinical Research Organisation to conduct a Phase I trial in healthy young people aged 14-17!
Richmond Pharmacology is a clinical research organisation that conducts Phase 1 clinical trials for healthy and patient volunteers and became the 1st CRO in Europe to be ethically approved for a volunteer trial in females aged fourteen to seventeen.
Richmond Pharmacology also provides Specialist TQT studies
This landmark decision by Great Ormond Street Ethics Committee to allow this study to be conducted paves the way for future studies of this age group.
A great achievement for Richmond Pharmacology was the recruitment of the first healthy young volunteers just sixteen days after gaining ethics approval on 28 Feb 2009.
A comparison (of the effect that an oral contraceptive pill has on the body) between females aged 14 – 17 and females aged 18 – 50 was the purpose of the study.
The study itself is typical of many Phase I trials of these compounds, however it is the population being included that makes this a pivotal study.
The UK has been known to conduct top class clinical trials and studies for all phases Recently some of these trials have been conducted outside of the UK However the approval of this study marks a substantial shift in thinking and attitude towards clinical trial conduct in the UK and Richmond Pharmacology are proud to be at the centre of this pioneering move to once again make the UK THE place to conduct more specialised clinical trials
This study coupled with our recent success in a complex Multiple Sclerosis, (MS), study, involving the recruitment and dosing of 71 MS patients in one centre, (once again the first of its kind), is just another example of why more and more sponsors are turning to Richmond Pharmacology. Trials such as these establish Richmond Pharmacology as the only choice when sponsors look for a CRO that goes the extra mile.
Richmond Pharmacology’s founding Directors are still at the heart of the company. Their hands on approach coupled with a dedicated and highly skilled staff ensure we are able to meet the challenges set by sponsors.
